The Dangers of Theology-ology

It always bothers me when people make the Bible so complicated. Recently I had someone post this on social media that claims to be a Christian:

“Calvinists and most other protestants hold to Sola scripture while Catholics hold to scripture, tradition and magisterium, (teaching.)  But, in fact protestants don’t hold Sola scriptura in practice, an example;
“Presbyterians hold to the Westminister Confession, a statment of beliefs that they believe, it is authoritative and influences their interpretation of scripture, this, by any definition is magisterium!  The same is true of all the mainline denominations.
“Fact is Sola scripture is a teaching of John Calvin, again magisterium, (teaching!)  Even in non-denominational churches the pastor-teacher is the “magister,” the teaching authority!” (Person who said this left anonymous out of respect for them as a human being.)

I am sure he meant well but for all practical purposes ‘Does anyone know what he is talking about?’ I say that sarcastically and to make a point, I am sure someone reading this probably does understand it. I call people who love to use big seminary words ‘Theologian-logians’. They aren’t theologians as in people who study God but they are armchair scholars who take pride in making a muddied-up puddle of theology that no regular person benefits from.

Theologian-logians love to debate Calvinist this, magisterium (oo scary word that no one knows or cares about), etc. while the ‘masses lay on the church doorstep in decay, ignore them long enough maybe they will go away’ (Petra, Rose Colored Stained Glass Windows). Stop making it so difficult to understand. It isn’t that hard! Children can understand when the gospel when it is communicated clearly. Theologian-logians need to heed Apostle Paul’s statement on speaking clearly in a language people can understand instead of priding themselves in knowing big words! 1 Corinthians 13:1 “Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. ” I can hear the clanging of what this person said above.

I teach the Bible, I preach, I blog, I write books and do video but have never felt it necessary to use words over peoples’ heads. Complicated theological discussions only serve to keep the self-righteous feeling justified staying within their walls while people die and go to hell. Give me a church that gives bread and clothing to the poor, sits in the mud with the muddy and loves and talks to others on a level that anyone could understand.

“If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?” James 2:15-16

Enjoy this video of a song by Petra that I think says what I am trying to say:
