Are There Positives in the Plague?

“Then they are to take some of the blood and put it on the sides and tops of the doorframes of the houses…. On that same night I will pass through Egypt and strike down every firstborn of both people and animals, and I will bring judgment on all the gods of Egypt. I am the Lord. The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are, and when I see the blood, I will pass over you. No destructive plague will touch when I strike Egypt.” -Exodus 12:7, 3
Gathered together within homes, not daring to venture out. An air of stillness, uncomfortable silence and impending danger. An awareness that there is an invisible, silent presence moving through the streets, neighborhoods, and cities bringing with it the possibility of death. This is what the Children of Israel were experiencing that fateful night before God finally broke the spirit of Pharaoh and Israel finally gained its liberation from bondage in Egypt.
At this current point in time, with the outbreak of COVID-19, we can certainly draw parallels with this episode in Israel’s history. (more…)
