Addicted!
Addictions come in many forms not just drugs and alcohol…..
Addictions come in many forms not just drugs and alcohol. There are sexual addictions that many struggle with with the open format of pornography on the internet. Anger can be an addiction. Sometimes a person may not just be getting angry at someone but their anger reaction has became ‘natural’ for them. It has became an addiction. Addiction to control and have power over others to the point of abusing someone else. This can even be on a large scale where a very charismatic personality has taken control over a church or workplace or community. Extreme examples are cults. I could go on and on. It is significant that Apostle Paul and Peter said we should be “sober minded” in many scriptures
1 Peter 5:8 Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.
1 Peter 1:13 Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
You can be drunk on many things. You can be addicted to many things. There are those addictions that go deep even to the point of some physical dependency like drugs or alcohol but all addictions have their roots in our spiritual state, how we have managed the temptations we face daily, how we daily discern and manage our thought life. It really comes down to what we have given power over us.
Apostle Paul warns us about strongholds, keeping our imagination (2 Corinthians 10:3-6) and thought life in check constantly because every action is preceded by a thought. Strongholds take time to build and achieve a grip on us. Strongholds were no doubt preceded by much premeditation and dabbling a little here and there until it got its grip on us. A stronghold is nothing more than whatever dark place the enemy of your soul is controlling you from. Addiction defends that area of darkness that is controlling a person. You become your own worst enemy.
The good news is you can be free! In many cases there are physical addictions that need to be broken but unless a person realizes that the main addiction must be broken spiritually they will continue to return the same problem like a washed pig returns to wallow in the mud. You must become sober minded. Mental, soul and spiritual strongholds must be pulled down, You must be transformed from the inside out. This may take some Godly, Spirit-filled counselor. That’s OK. YOU ARE NOT ALONE. Stop fighting it alone. You have got to get to that place where you can and are willing to reprogram your mind. Reprogram your thinking. You don’t have to be bound any longer.
These scriptures tell you how:
Romans 12:1-3
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
3 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.
